Volunteers
FOLKS
activities include monitoring the lake's health, reducing lakeside and
watershed damages via education and legislation, and fund raising to accomplish
the former. FOLKS succeeds by the efforts of hundreds of volunteers. Here
are some of the volunteer opportunities in which you might participate:
- Mailing Assistance- Folding, stuffing, affixing labels
- Semi-annual Lake Sweeps- as captain or crew of pontoon to cleanup
the shoreline of selected parts of the lake
- Board Membership- attending monthly meetings, liason to committees
- Membership Committee- Work on Individual and Business Membership programs
- Water Quality Monitoring- Determination of clarity and other water
quality measurements and monitoring of shoreline actvities.
- Algae Studies- work in laboratory testing tiles for Chlorophyll a,
one of several measurements we use to determine the health of the lake
and specific coves
- Technical Committee- researching new ways to measure the lake's health
- Public Relations- Work on press releases and act as an official FOLKS
spokesperson
- Newsletter-writing, editing, production liaison, soliciting advertising
- Property Maintenance- mowing FOLKS headquarter lawn, mulching, planting
flowers/shrubs, painting and mechanical.
- Legislative Committee- work on developing Bills, attend county council,
planning commission meetings, research and report to board on pending
Bills.
- Fundraising- chair or work on golf tournament, theater party, biannual
auction.
