What You Can Do

You can help preserve Lake Keowee at several levels:

  • Membership - starts at $30 for a family and includes 6 issues of the Sentinel newletter with its updates on Keowee's health, FOLKS events, outreach education and upcoming Forum speakers.
  • Donations - Is a method to provide additional support. FOLKS also has an endowment; the profits of which are used to support its functions.
  • Volunteering - check out this page link as to how you might assist in a variety of tasks, some technical, most not.
  • Home Owners can find expert information on the best practices to control runoff, lawncare, and septic tanks thereby preventing water pollution, sediment, and nutrients from entering the lake from their land.
  • Boating Safety on Lake Keowee is needed to prevent a reoccurence of the 2005 four- death boating season. This can be done by receiving and/or providing boating safety training or by participating in lake patrols. Check out this link to find groups that provide such services and review currents SC laws & penalties regarding operating under influence, negligent homicide etc.
  • Residential Water Efficiency (Conservation) suggestions from EPA.
