Task Objective
Monitoring Track the health of the Lake Keowee... learn what's happening and where: Aquatic life, Clarity, Sediment, Bacteria, Nutrients, Weeds, Other
Engineering Access relevant technologies, test methods, prevention and remedy methods.
Planning Develop plans for best management of the watershed and water resources. Plan for growth and development of FOLKS organization and capabilities.
Community Cooperation Understand current policies and laws that may impact the lake. Develop and implement strategies for increased cooperation among owners, interested citizens, businesses, and government.
Education Identify gaps in understanding; develop and support educational programs. Assist with "Pontoon Classrooms", exhibits at shows and fairs, teaching aids, student awards, and participate in state and national lake associations. Arrange programs and forums for FOLKS and other interested groups.
Conservation Projects Support local conservation programs and find out what's not getting done. Fill gaps as needed. Sponsor lake sweeps and surveys, prevention and remedy of abuses, enhancement of water safety and navigation, reduction of nutrient and septic contamination, erosion and invasive plants and pests.
Information Inventory and manage circulation of references, displays and equipment. Operate a telephone and computer "hot line" inquiry center.
Communications Publish and distribute the Sentinel our 20 page bi-monthly newsletter in which business may advertise by calling 864-882-3655. Cultivate media relations; prepare and place news releases. Prepare promotional mailings, flyers, talks and visual aids. Organize and schedule FOLKS speakers for outside groups. Maintain this website.
Membership Recruit new members, collect dues, and maintain the member data base: Directory, Mailing lists, Renewals, Volunteer Skills Bank.
Funding Raise funds via gifts, grants, sponsorships, and special events.
Special Projects Help with gathering, mailing, phone chains, correspondence, and lots more!
