A crowd gathered at the top of Isaqueena Falls to celebrate the completion of the Stumphouse Conservation Project which started a year ago with a group of concerned Walhalla citizens who wanted to save the property from private development.Cherokee Recognition Many grew up with these lands as part of family lives. A broad cooperative effort by SC Nature Conservancy, Upstate Forever, Oconee County, Walhalla Council, State Legislators, SC Conservation Bank, DNR and contributions from over 1100 individuals pulled together the grants and necessary matching funds to meet a deadline within a few months. All in all a amazing cooperative effort toward one goal.

While not a central player to this saga, FOLKS played several roles to assist.. Early on our Bill Graham spoke on behalf of the property's preservation. FOLKS financed a supporting insert in our Sentinel and also made a direct donation. The watershed around Stumphouse and Issaqueena Falls is part of the Lake Keowee Watershed and therefore part of our mission.

We applaud the unified and swift actions of the above groups to preserve the lands, the memories and the recreational and tourism opportunities for all, especially the citizens of Walhalla and Oconee County.
