SEPTIC TANK RISERS

What are they?

A septic tank riser provides a covered shaft which stretches from ground surface down to the cleanout hatch on your septic tank. It provides a "level with the ground,” access that can be used to inspect and/or pump the tank.

If you want a riser installed:

McKee Inc. (882-8081) -- install risers and complete septic systems

Kilobough & Jones (653-8748 or 710-5698) -- riser add-ons and landscaping

Rainmaker (882-0363) -- riser add-ons, irrigation, and landscaping

Wood Masters (710-1041) -- riser add-ons and landscaping

Action Septic Service (638-6642) -- install risers in conjunction with pump-outs

McJunkins Septic Tank Service (638-5505) -- install risers in conjunction with pump-outs

If you do not know the location of your tank:

Contact the DHEC office in Walhalla at 200 Booker DR (2nd Floor). They should have the location sketch on file. They'll need your lot number and name of your subdivision. The name of the builder may also help.

*At time of tanking installation or when tank hatch uncovered during clean-out

Why do I need one?

Because regular maintenance is necessary to prevent system failure and pollution of near-by waterways, the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), Clemson University Extension Service, Friends of Lake Keowee Society, and others urge homeowners...especially those in waterside communities...to have their septic system inspected and pumped every 3 to 6 years.

Risers sell for as little as $75*, or about the cost of a one-time dig. Once installed, the need to find and dig to the tank for servicing is eliminated. Over time, this will save you money and help you do your part to keep near-by waterways clean and pristine.

How do I get one?

Most homeowners choose to install a riser either when the septic system is first installed, or when the tank is pumped following planned maintenance. Many "do it yourself" homeowners have installed risers themselves with little difficulty.
